TURTLE ISLAND, October 13, 2026—Indigenous.tv returns today as IND, Indigenous News & Documentary, an independent publication and production hub. Its website, indnewsdoc.com, is now live, and publishing resumes today.
Founded as Indigenous.tv in 2023, the publication built an audience across Turtle Island around the daily rhythm of Indigenous public life. That work now continues across three equal editorial divisions: IND News, IND Culture and IND Entertainment. Across all three, IND publishes reporting, interviews and original visual work on the web and on social media, and is developing original productions. Its focus is Indigenous public life; what is private, or not meant for public sharing, stays that way.
This year, the internet changed. With the rise of generative AI, the social-first publishing model Indigenous.tv grew up in could be copied by anyone, without the care or the relationships behind the work. AI content accounts scraped Indigenous.tv's catalogue, and IND spent much of the year challenging them. It made one thing clear: these stories needed a lasting home of their own.
The new name reflects how the work has grown. Indigenous.tv was never the publication's web address, and it described an early version of what it set out to do. Over three years, the work became bigger than television. IND, a shortening of Indigenous.tv, now stands for Indigenous News & Documentary, and for the intention and responsibility behind it.
"Indigenous.tv was a place for exploration, free of the expectations that others had placed upon us," said Cody Anthony, IND's founder and Editor-in-Chief.
IND is independent: fully Indigenous-owned and led. Its stories are editorially independent unless stated otherwise, and any paid or partnered work is clearly disclosed. That independence gives IND the freedom to stay close to the pulse of Indigenous life and to serve its readers as accurately as possible.
IND took time away from publishing this year to build a company meant to last for generations, for the readers who made Indigenous.tv what it is. It invites them to be part of what comes next. Story ideas are welcome at [email protected], and people who'd like to work with IND can register their interest at [email protected]. Ways to support the work will follow.
