Sony Pictures has set an October 23 theatrical release for Klara and the Sun, according to ComingSoon and TheWrap. Taika Waititi directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Dahvi Waller, adapting Kazuo Ishiguro's novel about Klara, an Artificial Friend seeking a home.

Waititi, who is Māori, co-created FX's Reservation Dogs with Sterlin Harjo. The comedy series is about four Native teenagers in rural Oklahoma.

Jenna Ortega plays Klara, who meets Josie, played by Mia Tharia. Amy Adams plays Josie's mother, and the cast also includes Steve Buscemi and Natasha Lyonne, according to ComingSoon. The BFI London Film Festival's synopsis says Klara is chosen to be Josie's friend, a task complicated by Josie's strained relationship with her controlling mother.

DCM's U.K. and Ireland cinema listings also give October 23 for the film's release there. Klara and the Sun screened at the BFI London Film Festival on October 15, according to the festival.
