D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai Plays Jimmy in A Long Winter
The Canadian distributor has shared a trailer for Andrew Haigh's drama ahead of its Jan. 22 theatrical release.

D'Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai plays Jimmy in Andrew Haigh's A Long Winter, which opens theatrically in Canada on Jan. 22, 2027. Canadian distributor Films We Like has made the film's official trailer available through its press page.
Mercy Lam of Films We Like told IND that Jimmy is a young man hired by Lester, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach, to help around the house. He forms a bond with Fred Hechinger's character.
Haigh adapted the film from Colm Tóibín's short story. Film at Lincoln Center describes a story set in the Mountain West in the early 1950s: after a mother disappears during a snowstorm, her son and husband must search for her while managing the household themselves. Hechinger, Moss-Bachrach, Caitríona Balfe and Kit Connor appear alongside Woon-A-Tai.
Films We Like says the film was shot in Alberta and made with MUBI, Film4, The Bureau and Nomadic Pictures. Its Canadian release is in partnership with MUBI.
Woon-A-Tai identifies as Oji-Cree-Anishinaabe. On Actors & Ancestors, he said his people are from Big Trout Lake in northwestern Ontario. Discussing opportunities for Indigenous artists, he said, "we need to uplift each other".
Films We Like currently lists January engagements in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Kelowna, as well as festival screenings in Windsor and Montréal before the theatrical opening. The distributor's film page carries the current Canadian screening listings.
